THE LOW FREQUENCY IN STEREO
“Psych-Garage Dronemeisters” – Pitchfork Media
The Low Frequency in Stereo, from Haugesund, Norway, is called the band with one foot in Pompeii and one in Space.
The music is based on groovy drums, heavy organic bass, an old living-room organ, Fender Rhodes and a knife-sharp guitar. Sometimes they even use vocal as an instrument. Together, this mixed line-up makes timeless music which gives the listener a hint of the atmosphere from everything between Can, Stereolab, The Jesus And Mary Chain and The Doors.
The Low Frequency in Stereo makes music that sounds fresh, inspired and focused. Some call it Lo-Fi Post-Rock. Others just talk about the unique Low Frequency in Stereo sound.
2006 was a great year for The Low Frequency in Stereo. The release of “The Last Temptation of… the Low Frequency in Stereo vol 1” in march ‘06 made good critics all over the world, and Low Frequency in Stereo got nominated for the Norwegian Grammy Award “Spellemannsprisen” 2006 in the category of “Best Rock Album”.
The Low Frequency in Stereo then played at almost every norwegian festival the following summer. They also got invited to music-conventions like Great Escape in Brighthon, UK, and CMJ – Music Marathon in New York, USA.
Due to all this, The Low Frequency in Stereo wants to give their audience more. A new album is upcoming, together with the new gitarist, Njål Clementsen. This will be a project different from earlier releases, but still, with the same, unique Low Frequency in Stereo feeling.
David Fricke describes the concert at SXSW, Austin, Texas, 2005:
“The music is a mixture of the long solo elements in “the Doors”, set to the raptide of Joy Division`s “transmission” with the surf guitar twang of Dick Dale”. “They are the Coolest Rulers from Scandinavia !”
David Fricke - Senior Editor – Rolling Stone Magazine.
Review of “The Last Temptation of… The Low Frequency in Stereo. Vol 1”
When the song ends, you can only sit back and ask yourself what in the hell just happened? They think way outside of the box, and that is a very good thing. (…) Appealing to quite a broad cross section of music fans, this new album (their third) should give them the recognition here in the States that they deserve.
